The Downline Online 21-day
SFI Promotion Course
DAY 5
I want to tell you something I've learned in this business. It took me 5 years of
hearing it until I saw that it was true. Maybe when I tell you what it is, you won't be so
pigheaded for so long. The big lesson I learned is:
It's easier to take MASSIVE ACTION than it is to take small actions.
I know that sounds backwards, but my experience has been that it's true. When you take
MASSIVE action, and do as much as you can do in the shortest time, the results you get
fuel more action and keep you going until things take off on their own.
When you take small actions, if you get small results, it's easy to think "this
doesn't work," even if it's working BETTER than anything you've ever done!
I talked with one person in our DO group who complained that she only had 2 new members
after a month of spending 20 minutes a day placing FREE classifieds. I said to her,
"When you were in this business BEFORE SFI, how many new Members joined your
group" She said, "One." I said, "And how long were you in that
business?" She said, "Six months." And I said, "How much time did you
spend 'selling' them?" She said, "A lot." I said, "How much were your
phone and postal expenses?" Finally getting my point, she said, "Couple hundred
dollars." I said, "So, when something does 12 times better with 1/1000 the cost
or effort, that's NOT working?" She went back to placing ads!
#### "What do I do when I get new Affiliates?" ####
By now, you should be seeing new Affiliates signing up underneath you. Some may be
there thanks to your efforts, and some will be there thanks to the efforts of the other
people in your Powerline.
In fact, if you've got a REALLY strong person in your Powerline, above you may have
already gotten A LOT of new Affiliates.
And you may have gotten an email from SFI saying "Welcome them."
Here's what we recommend:
ONLY if *you* referred them, drop them a personal note to say hello, tell them who you
are, let them know you're excited about SFI, and tell them how to find you if they have
any questions. Something like this:
"Jill, I want to welcome you to the SFI Marketing group. You're about to see that
this thing is TAKING OFF! I own a software company in Boulder, Colorado and I had been
looking for an online business that was FOR REAL... and this has been amazing me! You'll
be getting a KILLER training from one of the SFI Leaders, Steven Sashen, that'll tell you
EXACTLY what you need to know to make this work for you. But if you ever have any
questions, feel free to ask me. Email or call me at 555-555-5555."
You'll know that you referred the person, because you'll get a copy of the email SFI
sends the new Affiliate with the subject: "Welcome New SFI Affiliate" and above
their ID # will be a code that has YOUR ID# in it.
You REALLY don't need to do anything else, because the SFI system and this training
course are doing most of it for you!
##### Today's Lesson - Opt In Lists #####
Did you know that there are people on the planet who ASK to have advertising mailed to
them?
It's true... kinda'
Actually, these are people who participate in email discussions where advertising is
allowed.
The way an email discussion works is simple. Everyone who wants to participate in it
"opts-in," or registers. That's why these lists are sometimes called
"Opt-In Lists."
Whenever ANY of the registered participants sends an email to the list's email address,
a piece of software mails that message out to EVERY registered participant.
Since this can turn into a LOT of separate emails (I've been on lists that generate
200+ emails per day), the list software usually has a feature called "digest"
that combines all of the separate email into one long email, the "digest."
Again, many of these lists let you send ads to the participants, and since all the
participants have "opted-in" to the list (and since many are sending ads
themselves), they're the LAST people to complain about getting "unsolicited
email."
In fact, if you mail to lists where the participants are trying to make money online,
guess what kind of advertising they'll read...
That's right, ads about HOW TO MAKE MORE money!
And what can we offer them?
Our online income course, our SFI system, our Affiliate program, our SFI products...
all things that will make them more money!
Can you ask for a more perfect place to find people to point to your SFI website?
I hope you're thinking "GREAT! Now how do I do this?"
Before I tell you, let me add a warning:
Different lists have different advertising policies. Some let you send out one ad per
day. Others let you send one per MONTH!
Follow the rules!
If you don't, you can get kicked out of the list, or worse (don't ask me what
"worse" is, just follow the rules!).
##### Today's ACTION Plan - FREE #####
*** STEP 1 - Sign me up! ***
Go to http://downlineonline.com/members/optin.htm
You'll be able to go to the best opt-in list manager that I know, One List
(www.onelist.com)
Follow the links to Sign Up.
*** STEP 2 - Find lists to opt-in to ***
Search OneList for words like "mlm," "network marketing,"
"work at home," "home business," "online marketing," or any
other you can think of that might be relevant.
Frankly, some "generic" lists might work as well! If there's a list that
emails to a general population of 100,000, don't you think there will be people in there
who want to make money online?
*** STEP 3 - Reduce your email load! ***
Wait until you get notified that you're a member of a list, then go back to OneList, go
to the "Member Center" and select "digest" for all the lists your
subscribed to.
*** Step 4 - Read the Rules ***
Follow the links at OneList to find out what each list's rules are about advertising.
FOLLOW THOSE RULES!
*** Step 5 - Get ready to roll ***
Rich Strayer has a great idea -- put the email addresses of the similar lists together.
That is, make different text file or an address book entry in your email software for
the lists that accept ads daily, weekly, monthly, etc.
This makes it easier to mail to the lists when you...
*** Step 6 - Start mailing! ***
Take one of our sample ads, or one that you've written and mail it to the list address.
I suggest you do it this way:
Put YOUR email address in the TO: field.
Put the AD HEADLINE in the SUBJECT: field.
Put the lists you're mailing to in the BCC: field
(If you don't see a bcc: field, check your email software help to find it! It's there
and YOU MUST use it or you risk the wrath of the list manager).
This way, you mail to ALL the lists simultaneously, but invisibly.
*** Step 7 - Repeat! ***
Keep doing what you just did! Mail to the "weekly" lists next week.
BUT... I wouldn't mail to the lists that accept daily advertising every day. Maybe 2
times a week.
Yes, it takes 5-7 impressions for someone to respond to your ad, but when you mail the
same thing too often, it just looks like something that can be thrown away.
*** HINT ***
Want to find other lists without ANY effort?
Look at the email you get from other list members. When THEY stupidly put all the
addresses they're mailing to in the CC: field, you'll find other lists that you may not
know about.
You'll also see why you want to use the BCC: field -- nobody can see what you put in
there!
##### Today's ACTION Plan - FEE #####
*** OPTION 1 - Use an opt-in mailing service ***
Go to http://downlineonline.com/members/resource.htm to find a few services that will
mail an ad to opt-in lists for you.
*** OPTION 2 - Look for Opt-In lists that charge to participate ***
Some opt-in lists charge you a fee to join. The members in this list will obviously be
a more select group. We've had some great results with paid opt-in lists.
##### What's up for tomorrow #####
1) How to mail an ad to 300,000 people IN SECONDS!
2) Finding people to help you succeed.
Be well,
Steven Sashen
