What is an Ezine?

Simply, an ezine is an "Electronic magazine" or newsletter, sent via email to its subscribers.

Just like regular magazines and newsletters, there are ezines for various topics, some are generic and some are highly targeted, written for a very specific group of people.


How do I advertise in Ezines?

Also like regular magazines and newsletters, most ezines accept advertising. Different ezines have different rates, some as low as $5 per mailing.

BUT, make sure you get accurate subscriber information from the ezine so you can see the "cost per thousand" of the mailing! Just because an ezine charges $5 per ad, don't jump on it! If they only have 100 subscribers, you've just paid WAY TOO MUCH. Similarly, don't run away from ezines that charge $1000 if they have a huge number of highly qualified subscribers.

Like you can with webmasters and banner ads, you can often negotiate for better deals with ezine publishers. If you don't care when your ad runs, you can ask for a discount if they use your ad when they don't have enough fully paid ads.

You can also get the ezine publishers to join 6-Figure and let them put the ads in their own ezine!

Classified ads - in many ezines, you can place 3-5 line classified ads, like some of the ones in the Sample Ad page of this site. Some ezines will only have 2-3 ads per issue. Others will have dozens.

Some ezines charge more money for "premium placement" near the top of the ezine.

Some will move your ad into better and better positions the longer you run your ad with them. Ask about this kind of deal.

Exclusive Ads - Some ezines will mail just your ad to all their subscribers. This is often relatively expensive, but it can also be highly effective, if it's the right group of subscribers

Articles - Like I mention in the Be An Expert section, the most powerful way to establish your credibility is to publish an article. When something you have written is published, lots of people will come out of the woodwork to be involved in whatever you're doing!

Many ezines will let you submit articles that they will send to their subscribers. See if there's an article you can write to be included in an ezine... you'll be able to use your 6-Figure URL in your "by-line."  Most ezines describe submission guidelines in the ezine or on their websites.


Finding Ezines to advertise in

Ezines come and ezines go. There are a select few that last for a long time.   There are a number of places you can look to find ezines that you can advertise in:

  1. Read your incoming mail! If you do an FFA Blast or some other bulk submission, you'll get a LOT of return mail. Some of it will be from people advertising ezines... some may include free advertising offers.

Here's a list of a TON of ezines. Do this with the list:

  1. Open your email program and start a new email.
  2. Put your email address in the "to:" field.
  3. Put "subscribe" in the "subject field
  4. Copy and paste all these addresses into the bcc: field in your email (if you can't find that field, use cc: instead)
  5. Put "subscribe" in the body of the email.
  6. Send the email.

You'll get a lot of bad addresses returned to you (sorry, it's practically impossible to keep this list clean).  And you'll also be subscribed to a lot of ezines.  Check them out and see which ones you want to try advertising in.
