The POWER Newsgroup Strategy!
I'm updating this site to reflect the exciting changes in SFI. Currently SFI prohibits posting ads for SFI in newsgroups. This includes using posting into newsgroups with an SFI URL in your signature file.
Internet newsgroups are like watercoolers at an office,
where everyone gathers and chats about some topic. Except that you don't have to be there
LIVE to chat. Imagine having a bulletin board at the watercooler, and instead of talking,
you walk up to the board, read the messages, write a reply if you like and post it for
others to read.
That's all a newsgroup is.
There are THOUSANDS of newsgroups, for almost every topic imaginable.
Here are the two best ways I know to use Newsgroups for promoting your 6-Figure site.
The essence of the two involves proper participation
and/or proper posting.
Participating in Newsgroups
without SPAMMING
One of the original definitions of "spamming" was
posting the same ad or message in multiple newsgroups simultaneously.
So, the first rule of proper participation is DON'T
do that!
The second rule of proper participation is participate.
Don't simply put ads in a newsgroup but actually become a "member" of the
newsgroup. Do it this way:
- Find the newsgroup or newsgroups you want to follow from the newsgroup list below.
- Using your Newsgroup software (usually Netscape, Internet Explorer
or AOL's newsgroup software), "subscribe" to the newsgroup (I can't tell you
how, follow the instructions in your software).
- "LURK." That means, "read the
messages in the newsgroup for a few days to get a sense of what happens in that group. Are
ads allowed or frowned upon? What kinds of conversations happen?
- When you're ready, reply to a message with a RELEVANT response.
"Relevant" depends on the newsgroup. If it's a health newsgroup and someone asks
about vitamins, you can reply about Body Balance. If it's a business opportunity newsgroup
and someone asks about an online business, you can point them to your 6-Figure site.
You will not be accused of spamming if you give RELEVANT replies!
" Sneaking your ad" into a posting -
You may have a relevant reply to a message that has NOTHING to do with promoting your
6-Figure site. But you can still "sneak" an ad into your posting.
How? Simple.
Remember your
email "sig file"?
Put a sig file in your Newsgroup software!
Then, whenever
you post ANY message in ANY newsgroup, you're giving people the chance to find out about
your 6-Figure website!
Posting ads in Newsgroups
Like proper participating, the first rule of
proper posting is DO NOT post in multiple newsgroups simultaneously!
Some newsgroups don't mind blatant advertising. In fact, some
newsgroups are nothing BUT blatant advertising.
The problem with posting in these newsgroups is that there are LOTS of people who do
nothing but "harvest" email addresses of the people who post to these newsgroups
and then spam those people like crazy!
So, if you post in those newsgroups, expect A LOT of spam... but you can use this to
your advantage if you:
Set up your Newsgroup software to use your autoresponder's
email address for your "reply to" address!
That way, when these people steal your email address and mail to it, they'll get YOUR
AD as a response!
Newsgroups to post in
This is NOT a complete list of newsgroups you can use (nor am I suggesting you
participate in all of these!). In fact, I didn't list any health and nutrition newsgroups
which, because of our LFI products, would be good newsgroups to participate in.
To find newsgroups, go to www.deja.com
and search for newsgroups with topics related to your 6-Figure business.
